Is 6 a perfect number, and does that matter for Life Path 6?

Six equals the sum of the numbers that divide it (1, 2 and 3), which is the definition of a perfect number in Book VII of Euclid's Elements, and Philo of Alexandria and Augustine used that property to explain the six days of creation. None of the numerology profiles cited here draws on it for the Life Path 6.

Does a Birthday number 6 mean the same as Life Path 6?

No: the Birthday number uses only the day of the month, so anyone born on the 6th, 15th or 24th has a Birthday number 6, while the Life Path uses the whole date. The two agree only when a date happens to give 6 both ways.

What Does Life Path Number 6 Mean for Care and Responsibility?

"If you have a 6 Life Path, you are the Caretaker," Hans Decoz writes, and every author quoted here puts care for other people at the center of the number. Numerology.com says people born with it "embrace their emotions and lead with their heart".

The number comes from a birth date whose separately reduced month, day and year add up to 6.

The authors part company on what that care costs and where it is aimed. Decoz and Numerology.com describe a 6 that can meddle in other people's lives or give itself away until its own needs go unmet.

Balliett, writing in 1908, asked the 6 to do its work "joyously", and Cheiro, in 1926, gave the number to Venus and to people who "make most artistic homes".

The arithmetic has a dispute of its own: a total of 33 is kept as master number 33 instead of becoming 6, and whether a date reaches 33 at all depends on how its digits are added.

None of these descriptions can show how a particular person looks after anyone; that shows only in what the person does and in how the people they care for respond.

Caretaker, healer, lover of beautiful homes: how do the authors describe a Life Path 6?

Decoz gives the 6 "concern for the weak and the downtrodden" and calls it "a healer and a helper to others". His 6 is "naturally balanced" and therefore "well equipped to support and ground others"; it seeks marriage and is "often a wonderful parent, offering warmth, protection, and understanding to children".

He also credits it with musical talent, ability "in the visual and performing arts" and "enormous talent in business".

"The number 6 is the embodiment of the heart," Numerology.com writes, and "it represents unconditional love and the ability to support, nurture, and heal." Its list of traits runs "Caring, Healing, Compassionate, Nurturing, Protective, Idealistic, Romantic, Warm, Harmonious", and it pairs the number with The Lovers in the tarot and with Taurus and Libra, "both ruled by Venus".

Balliett's 1908 profile makes the 6 a worker who finishes things. "You represent the Saturday of the world's days when the work is almost finished," she told the 6, and "you should fit everything in its place and do so joyously."

She set it against the laboring 4 and made cheerfulness a condition: for a 6, any work "will be a failure unless it is done with cheerfulness". One of her colors for the number, heliotrope, is "the color of the highest parenthood and the purest love for children".

Cheiro assigned 6 to Venus. His 6 people are "extremely magnetic", loved "and often worshipped by those under them", and they "love beautiful things" and "make most artistic homes".

Their love, he insisted, is "more the 'mother love' than the sensual", and he gave them a stubborn streak: "obstinate and unyielding, except when they themselves become deeply attached", at which point they become "devoted slaves to those they love".

All four put the home at the center and differ on which side of home life they stress. Decoz's 6 supports and grounds others and Balliett's finishes the work, while the Venus line running through Cheiro and Numerology.com's tarot and zodiac pairings adds beauty, romance and attraction.

Life Path 6 or master number 33: why do calculators disagree?

Decoz and Numerology.com take a date in three pieces: the month, the day and the year are each reduced on their own, 11, 22 and 33 stay whole, and a final 6 from the sum of the three is Life Path 6. January 6, 1988 shows the method: 1 + 6 + 8, since 1988 becomes 26 and then 8, gives 15 and then 6.

Master number 33 needs a special condition under that method. Decoz writes that 33 "can be found in the Life Path only when there is at least one other Master number present", and the arithmetic explains why: three single digits reach at most 9 + 9 + 9 = 27.

So the sum reaches 33 only when one part is 22 and the other two add to 11, or when all three parts are 11. September 22, 2000 is one such date, since its day of 22 stays whole and 9 + 22 + 2 = 33.

Adding the digits straight across removes that condition and reverses both examples. January 6, 1988 becomes 1 + 6 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 33, while September 22, 2000 becomes 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 15 and then 6.

Over a long span of dates the two methods produce very different counts:

Straight-across addition makes 33 nearly seven times as common, so if one calculator tells you 33 and another tells you 6, the difference lies in the method. Decoz calls simply adding the digits as they appear incorrect.

Under his rule 33 is the rarest master number: "made up of two 3s" but "dominated by the loving, responsible, caring 6", the profile known as the Master Teacher. Numerology.com describes Master Teachers as "devoted to showing others how to connect to their own heart and consciousness".

The larger claims made for master number 33 assume the method kept the total, and a date that reaches 33 only by straight-across addition is a 6 under Decoz's rule.

Cheiro's count never meets the question: he read only the day of birth, so his 6 people are born on the 6th, 15th or 24th, and no month has a 33rd day.

Meddling or martyrdom: when does a 6's caregiving go wrong?

Decoz names the danger directly: "The temptation and the danger for you is to think of yourself as the savior of the world, carrying the burdens of others on your shoulders."

His 6 needs to be needed, may "feel overburdened by the travails of others", and "must find the balance between help and interference". He adds that its own creativity "may well be suppressed due to your willingness to sacrifice".

His description of the digit splits that failure into two opposite directions, and Numerology.com's profile of the 6 follows the same split.

Balliett put the same double edge into one sentence in 1908: the 6 "should be a home of rest to those in your environment and the same people can be thrown by you into a tumult".

On these descriptions both failures grow from one trait. Care turns into control when it makes decisions that belong to someone else, such as rearranging a grown sibling's finances without being asked.

It turns into martyrdom when it keeps flowing one way until the carer's own needs never come up at all. A birth date shows neither shift; who decided, who asked and who is still carrying the work show both.

Why does Decoz say a Life Path 6 can match any number?

Decoz is the most generous of the authors on compatibility: "If you have a 6 Life Path you can potentially have a harmonious lasting relationship with any other number." He still ranks the options, and "the gentle Life Path 2 should be at the top of the list".

The 9 suits the 6, he writes, because both put "the welfare of others" first, and "the 6 and 8 combination is also excellent for business partnerships".

His one clear reservation from the 6's side concerns the 7: "The 6 and Life Path 7 often have a love-hate relationship, so it is uncommon to find it in romantic partners."

His entry for the 3 contradicts the open door. There he writes that "the 6 Life Path, normally the most harmonious of all numbers, does not thrive well in the company of a 3".

Cheiro disagrees: his 6 people have "the power of making more friends than any other class, with the exception of the number 5", especially among people born under the 3, 6 and 9.

On marriage Decoz adds a caution of his own: "Do not let sentimentality influence your decision, especially those involving the choice of a spouse." Numerology.com calls the 6 "more romantic than any other number" and says its protectiveness "becomes especially fierce when it comes to family".

A pair verdict describes how two profiles are said to fit. It cannot show whether help inside a particular relationship is asked for and returned, which is where the authors themselves locate the 6's trouble.

Teaching, healing, law enforcement: where do the authors put a 6 at work?

Decoz's list is specific: "Many 6's can be found in teaching, healing, counseling, construction, the legal field, and law enforcement." Construction and law enforcement sit beside teaching and healing, so his working 6 covers responsibility for other people's safety and property as well as bedside care.

His Life Path profile adds the arts and commerce, crediting the 6 with musical and artistic talent and with business ability backed by "charm and charisma". Cheiro's 6 people, when rich, are "most generous to art and artists" and "love to entertain their friends and make everyone happy about them".

These lists name settings where the authors expect the 6's care to be useful. Whether a teaching or nursing job suits a particular person depends on training, pay, workload and how much unpaid extra work a particular post involves, and that last point is the overburdening Decoz warns the 6 about.

Does a Life Path 6 have to be a caregiver?

None of the profiles says a 6 must take a caring role; they describe a temperament. Roughly one calendar date in ten (10.2 percent from 1950 to 2009) gives a 6, so the same portrait is offered for about one birthday in ten.

Care also involves a second person: whether help is wanted, and whether it leaves that person room to decide, depends on them, and no calculation of the carer's birth date can show it. A 6 seen again and again on clocks or receipts cannot show it either; a separate modern tradition reads such sightings as angel number 6.
